Main Ingredients- 5 slices of bread
- 1 can (small size) of tuna
- 2 hard-boiled eggs
- 4 strips of crab sticks (kani)
- 1 handful of pickled radish (chicken radish) (approx. 80g)
- 1/4 onion
- Approx. 4 Tbsp of grated carrot
Sauce & Seasoning- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 7 Tbsp mayonnaise
- 2 Tbsp honey mustard
- 0.5 Tbsp vinegar
- A pinch of black pepper
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 7 Tbsp mayonnaise
- 2 Tbsp honey mustard
- 0.5 Tbsp vinegar
- A pinch of black pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, drain the oil from the canned tuna thoroughly using a sieve. Finely mince the onion and pickled radish. Shred the crab sticks with your hands. Separate the whites and yolks of the 2 hard-boiled eggs; finely chop the whites and mash the yolks with a fork. Grate the carrot finely as well. Mincing all ingredients finely will result in a smoother and tastier sandwich filling.
Step 2
In a large bowl, combine the drained tuna, minced onion, pickled radish, shredded crab sticks, chopped egg whites, mashed egg yolks, and grated carrot. Add all the prepared filling ingredients together.
Step 3
Add 1 tablespoon of sugar for sweetness. If you prefer less sweetness, you can reduce the sugar by half or omit it. However, even with 1 tablespoon of sugar as in Chef Baek Jong-won’s recipe, the sweetness is not overpowering in the finished sandwich and helps balance the overall flavor, so adjust it to your preference.
Step 4
Now, add 7 tablespoons of mayonnaise for creaminess and flavor, 2 tablespoons of honey mustard for a tangy sweetness, 0.5 tablespoon of vinegar for a hint of acidity, and a pinch of black pepper. Mix everything thoroughly until well combined to create the sandwich filling. Ensure a thorough mix for harmonious flavors.
Step 5
Taste the prepared filling. If it feels a little bland, you can add a pinch of salt to season it further. However, since the pickled radish and tuna may already contain some salt, it’s important to taste and adjust the seasoning accordingly.
Step 6
For the bread, you can lightly toast it with butter or use a toaster to achieve a golden-brown crispness, which makes the sandwich even more delicious. If your bread is very fresh, you can use it as is. Generously spread the prepared tuna filling onto a slice of bread, then top with another slice to complete the sandwich! For this recipe, I used 3 slices of bread for one sandwich and the remaining 2 slices for another sandwich, totaling 5 slices of bread. Please keep this in mind when adjusting the amount of bread.
Step 7
Your homemade Baek Jong-won style tuna sandwich is now complete! Enjoy your delicious creation. ^^
