Main Ingredients

  • 1 bowl shredded radish (approx. 200g)
  • 1 soju cup chopped green onion (approx. 50g)

Seasoning & Others

  • 1/2 soju cup perilla oil (approx. 50ml)
  • 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic (approx. 5g)
  • 1/3 soju cup soy sauce (approx. 40ml)
  • 1 tsp sugar (approx. 3g)
  • 1/2 paper cup rice water (approx. 100ml)
  • 3 Tbsp generously ground sesame seeds (approx. 20g)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, thinly slice the radish into strips about 0.5cm thick. Slicing them too thinly will make them mushy, so aim for a thickness that still offers a slight bite. Finely chop the green onions.

Step 1

Step 2

Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add a generous amount of perilla oil. Add the chopped green onions and stir-fry gently until fragrant, creating a green onion oil. Once the green onions start to bubble and release their aroma, add all the shredded radish. Then, add the minced garlic, 1/3 soju cup of soy sauce, 1 tsp of sugar, and pour in 1/2 paper cup of rice water.

Step 2

Step 3

Continue to stir and cook over medium heat, making sure the radish doesn’t stick to the pan. Halfway through cooking, add 1 heaping tablespoon of the ground sesame seeds and mix well. Keep stirring and cooking until the radish is tender and most of the liquid has evaporated. When the radish looks moist and glossy, your Baek Jong-won style seasoned radish is ready.

Step 3

Step 4

Transfer the cooked seasoned radish to a serving container. Finally, sprinkle the remaining 2 tablespoons of generously ground sesame seeds over the top for an extra boost of nutty flavor.
