Essential Ingredients

  • 1 serving ramen noodles
  • 1 packet powdered soup base (from ramen package)
  • 1 packet dried vegetable mix (from ramen package)
  • 50g onion (approx. 1/4 medium)
  • 74g cabbage (approx. 2 handfuls)
  • 19g green onion (approx. 1/4 stalk)
  • 101g pork shoulder or loin
  • 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 500ml water

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare your vegetables and pork. Slice the green onion into roughly 3cm lengths. Slice the onion and cabbage into strips. Cut the pork into bite-sized pieces.

Step 1

Step 2

Now, let’s create that wok-hei flavor! Add a generous amount of cooking oil to a pan and heat it over high heat. Once the pan is sufficiently hot, add the onion, pork, green onion, and cabbage. Stir-fry everything vigorously over high heat until the vegetables soften and the pork becomes nicely browned. This step is crucial for developing deep flavor.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the ingredients are browned, pour the soy sauce in a circle around the edges of the pan. This allows the soy sauce to caramelize against the hot pan, adding a delicious smoky aroma and depth. Stir-fry for about 1 minute until the soy sauce aroma infuses all the ingredients. Then, add the gochugaru and stir-fry for another 30 seconds to release the chili oil. Be careful not to burn the chili flakes by stir-frying for too long.

Step 3

Step 4

Now it’s time to make the jjamppong broth. Keep the heat on high and pour in 500ml of lukewarm water into the pot or pan. Once the water comes to a rolling boil, add the ramen noodles.

Step 4

Step 5

As the noodles begin to loosen, add the powdered soup base and the dried vegetable mix from the ramen package. While the noodles are cooking, stir everything well with chopsticks or tongs to ensure the flavors meld together. Your delicious, smoky jjamppong ramen is now ready to be enjoyed hot!
