Basic Ingredients

  • Vegan Jajang Powder 100g
  • Water 800ml
  • Soy Sauce 1 Tbsp
  • Oyster Sauce 1 Tbsp
  • Brown Rice Oil 3 Tbsp
  • Pork Neck 100g
  • Green Onion 2 handfuls (chopped)
  • Cooking Sake 1 Tbsp
  • Small Shrimp 12 pcs (cleaned)
  • Pepper to taste
  • Potato 1 pc (diced)
  • Carrot 1/4 pc (diced)
  • Onion 1 pc (diced)
  • Cabbage 1 handful (roughly chopped)
  • King Oyster Mushroom 1 pack (remove base)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Chop all vegetables and pork neck into bite-sized pieces. (For frozen shrimp, thaw in cold water with a splash of vinegar, rinse, and pat dry to remove any fishy smell.)

Step 1

Step 2

In a wide bowl, combine the vegan jajang powder (100g) and water (800ml). Whisk or stir well with a spoon until smooth, ensuring there are no lumps.

Step 2

Step 3

To the smoothly mixed jajang sauce, add 1 Tbsp of oyster sauce and 1 Tbsp of soy sauce to enhance its deep umami flavor.

Step 3

Step 4

Heat a deep pan over high heat and add a generous amount of brown rice oil (3 Tbsp). Add the chopped green onions and sauté until fragrant to make green onion oil. Then, add the diced onion and stir-fry until translucent.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the onions are cooked, add the pork neck (100g). Stir in 1 Tbsp of cooking sake and a pinch of pepper to eliminate any gamey odors, and sauté until the pork is browned and cooked through.

Step 5

Step 6

When the pork is fully cooked, add the small shrimp (12 pcs) and stir-fry quickly until the shrimp turn pink.

Step 6

Step 7

Once the shrimp are cooked, add the diced potatoes and carrots, king oyster mushrooms (with bases removed), and roughly chopped cabbage. Stir-fry together until the vegetables are slightly tender.

Step 7

Step 8

Pour the prepared jajang sauce over the stir-fried ingredients and bring to a simmer over high heat. To check if it’s done, poke a carrot piece with a chopstick; if it’s tender, turn off the heat to complete the delicious jajang sauce.

Step 8

Step 9

Prepare a fried egg to your liking and place it on top of a bowl of warm rice. (Sunny-side up or over-easy are both great options.)

Step 9

Step 10

Generously ladle the finished jajang sauce over the rice and fried egg for a rich and flavorful Jajangmyeon rice bowl. Enjoy your meal!
