Main Ingredients
  • 200g Beef (Bulgogi-cut or stew meat)
  • 3-4 Shiitake Mushrooms
  • 1/2 Onion
  • 1 Red Chili Pepper (optional, for a spicier taste)

Seasoning & Other Ingredients
  • 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
  • 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
  • Pinch of Black Pepper (optional)
  • A little Cooking Oil (if needed)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

To remove excess blood, pat the beef dry with paper towels or soak it in cold water for about 5 minutes. Removing the blood helps to reduce any gamey odor and results in a cleaner taste.

Step 2

Gently wipe the caps of the shiitake mushrooms with a damp paper towel or rinse them quickly under running water. Remove the tough stems; you can either tear the caps into bite-sized pieces along the grain or slice them. Slicing them larger will provide a more satisfying chew.

Step 3

Thinly slice the onion and diagonally slice the red chili pepper. You can add other vegetables like bell peppers, carrots, or green onions for added color and nutrition according to your preference. Incorporating a variety of vegetables will make your stir-fry more diverse and appealing.

Step 4

Heat a pan over medium heat. Add the beef and stir-fry until it’s mostly cooked and the surface turns white. Then, drizzle in 1 tablespoon of sesame oil and continue to stir-fry to enhance the flavor. Adding a pinch of black pepper at this stage can help eliminate any lingering meat smell.

Step 5

Once the beef is sufficiently cooked, add all the prepared shiitake mushrooms to the pan. Stir-fry them together with the beef until the mushrooms soften and wilt.

Step 6

As the mushrooms begin to wilt and soften, add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic and stir-fry until fragrant. Next, add 1 tablespoon of soy sauce to season the dish. Taste and adjust the amount of soy sauce as needed.

Step 7

Finally, add the diagonally sliced red chili pepper and stir-fry briefly. Your delicious Beef and Shiitake Mushroom Stir-fry is complete! If you prefer less heat, omit the chili pepper or substitute it with colorful bell peppers. Serve this delightful dish over warm rice!
