Bite-Sized Jjolmyeon Salad

Introducing the ‘Bite-Sized Jjolmyeon Salad’, a special dish crafted for my husband who absolutely adores jjolmyeon, often called the ‘Emperor of Noodle Dishes’! Tired of the same old jjolmyeon every day, he’d often grumble about it. So, I created this version that can be enjoyed like a salad, in convenient bite-sized portions, even with your hands! This is the birth of the ‘Bite-Sized Jjolmyeon Salad’.

Main Ingredients

  • 1 package fresh jjolmyeon noodles (store-bought)
  • Appropriate amount of lettuce
  • Appropriate amount of onion
  • A small amount of other vegetables (e.g., baby greens, red cabbage)
  • A small amount of fruit (e.g., cherry tomatoes, apple)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, boil the fresh jjolmyeon noodles in water according to the package instructions. Be careful not to overcook, as they can become mushy. Once cooked, rinse the noodles under cold water to stop the cooking process and drain them well. In a bowl, toss the drained noodles with the jjolmyeon sauce until evenly coated. Wash the lettuce thoroughly, tear it into bite-sized pieces, and place it in a serving bowl; this will serve as the salad base for your jjolmyeon.

Step 1

Step 2

Peel and wash the onion, then slice it thinly into julienne strips. Slicing it very thinly is recommended so that even children who may dislike the strong onion flavor can enjoy it without noticing. (Optional: Soaking the sliced onion in cold water for a few minutes can help reduce its pungent taste.) If you have bean sprouts, blanch them in the same water you used to cook the jjolmyeon, then drain and mix them in for added crunch.

Step 2

Step 3

Arrange the prepared lettuce nicely at the bottom of a wide plate or bowl. Then, carefully pile the seasoned jjolmyeon noodles on top, either by gently twirling them or arranging them neatly. The key is to plate it attractively to give it a bountiful salad appearance.

Step 3

Step 4

Finally, halve the cherry tomatoes and slice any other fruits like apples into bite-sized pieces. Artfully arrange these on top of the jjolmyeon. The sweet and tangy fruit will complement the spicy jjolmyeon sauce, creating a more complex and delightful flavor profile. Enjoy your incredibly simple and easy ‘Bite-Sized Jjolmyeon Salad’!
