Bok Choy Beef Porridge for Baby
Mid-Stage Baby Food: Making Tender Bok Choy and Beef Porridge for Your Little One
Bok choy is a versatile vegetable readily available year-round, making it a fantastic choice for baby’s early meals. It’s packed with essential minerals like calcium and sodium, as well as vitamins C and carotene, which are beneficial for your baby’s skin, teeth, and bone development. This recipe is specifically designed for the mid-stage of baby food, ensuring a smooth and digestible texture that your baby will love.
Ingredients- 2 Tbsp rice (approx. 30g)
- 20g lean beef
- 1 baby bok choy
- 2 cups beef broth (or water)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
For early stages of baby food, use only the tender leaf parts of the bok choy. The stems can be too fibrous for your baby at this stage.
Step 2
Briefly blanch the bok choy leaves in boiling water for about 1 minute. This process softens the leaves, making them easier for your baby to eat and digest.
Step 3
Remove the blanched bok choy leaves from the water and finely mince them. Chop them into very small pieces, about 3mm in size, so your baby can easily chew and swallow. Using a food processor or blender can make this step even quicker.
Step 4
Soak the beef in cold water for about 20 minutes to remove any blood. Then, briefly boil the beef in water for 1-2 minutes to further clean it. You can reserve the water used for boiling the beef to use as part of the broth for the porridge, adding extra flavor.
Step 5
For early mid-stage baby food, finely mash the boiled beef using a mortar and pestle (or a blender). For later mid-stage feeding, you can simply mince the beef finely with a knife. Adjust the texture according to your baby’s chewing ability development.
Step 6
Wash the rice thoroughly and soak it in water for about 30 minutes. If using rice flour, soak it in water for 30 minutes beforehand for a smoother porridge. If using whole grain rice, soak it and then blend it into a fine powder using a blender.
Step 7
In a pot, combine the soaked rice (or rice flour), the mashed beef, and 1 cup of beef broth. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and stir continuously as the rice grains soften and break down, about halfway cooked. Be sure to stir frequently to prevent the rice from sticking to the bottom of the pot.
Step 8
Once the rice is partially cooked, add the finely minced bok choy. Stir well and continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until the porridge reaches your desired consistency for your baby. If the porridge becomes too thick, add more broth or water gradually until it’s just right.
Step 9
Serve your delicious bok choy and beef porridge to your baby! The mild beef broth combined with the freshness of bok choy creates a wonderfully savory and comforting flavor. Made with love by Mom, it’s sure to be extra delicious! ♡
