Ingredients

  • 3 potatoes
  • 40g beef
  • 1 stalk scallion

Seasoning

  • 1 Tbsp anchovy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 cloves sliced garlic

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Peel the potatoes and cut them into bite-sized pieces. It’s best to cut them into pieces that are easy to eat, as they can break apart if cut too small during cooking.

Step 1

Step 2

Pat the beef dry with a paper towel to remove excess blood. Then, slice the beef into small, bite-sized pieces, approximately 1-2cm, suitable for braising.

Step 2

Step 3

Heat a pan over medium-high heat. Add 1 Tbsp of anchovy sauce and 1 Tbsp of sesame oil, then add the sliced beef. Sauté the beef over high heat until fragrant.

Step 3

Step 4

Stir the beef occasionally and cook until it turns brown on the outside. Once the beef is partially cooked, add the cut potatoes and sauté them briefly. This step helps the potatoes absorb the initial seasoning.

Step 4

Step 5

After stir-frying the beef and potatoes, pour in plenty of water. Once it comes to a boil, reduce the heat to medium-low, cover the pan, and simmer for a long time until both the potatoes and beef become very tender. This slow simmering process extracts the deep flavors from the ingredients.

Step 5

Step 6

When the liquid has reduced to your liking, taste the broth and adjust the seasoning if necessary with salt or more anchovy sauce. Finally, add the roughly chopped scallions and sliced garlic (or minced garlic). Simmer for another few minutes until the flavors meld, then turn off the heat. The aroma of scallions and garlic will enhance the overall taste of the dish.
