Braised Tofu with Beef: A Rich and Flavorful Recipe
Elevate Your Tofu Dish: A Special Braised Tofu with Ground Beef
A healthy and delicious rice thief for your family! This braised tofu recipe is so good that even picky eaters who dislike meat will happily eat it by mixing it with rice. We’ve used ground beef to add a deep and rich flavor, and a simple seasoning creates a wonderful side dish.
Main Ingredients- 1 block Firm Tofu (approx. 300-400g)
- 1/2 lb Ground Beef (approx. 200-250g)
- 1/4 medium Onion
Seasoning- 2 Tbsp Oyster Sauce
- 1/2 cup Water (approx. 100ml)
- 2 Tbsp Oyster Sauce
- 1/2 cup Water (approx. 100ml)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Cut the tofu into bite-sized pieces, about 1.5cm thick, into squares or rectangles. Thinly slice the onion. Measure out the oyster sauce.
Step 2
In a bowl, combine the ground beef with 2 tablespoons of oyster sauce. Knead the mixture gently with your hands until it becomes sticky and well-combined. The oyster sauce alone provides ample umami, so no other seasonings are needed.
Step 3
Heat a lightly oiled pan over medium heat. Pan-fry the tofu pieces on both sides until golden brown. This step helps firm up the tofu, preventing it from breaking apart and enhancing its flavor. (Alternatively, you can enjoy the fried tofu as is, dipping it in a bit of soy sauce!)
Step 4
Using the same pan (or a clean one), add the ground beef seasoned with oyster sauce. Stir-fry the beef, breaking it up with your spatula to prevent clumping, until it’s cooked through.
Step 5
To the cooked beef, add the pan-fried tofu and sliced onions. Pour in 1/2 cup of water (approx. 100ml). Bring to a simmer over medium-low heat and let it braise until the sauce has slightly reduced and the flavors have melded together.
Step 6
Once the sauce has thickened to your liking and the tofu and beef have absorbed the flavors, your delicious braised tofu with beef is ready! The addition of beef gives this dish a more sophisticated and deeper flavor compared to regular braised tofu. It’s a fantastic side dish for rice and also makes a great appetizer or accompaniment to drinks!
