Cabbage and Cheese Rolls Recipe: Perfect for a Diet Menu
Enjoy a satisfying, low-calorie meal made with fresh cabbage, savory ham, and melty cheese. These cabbage and cheese rolls are a perfect choice for a healthy diet, offering plenty of flavor and fullness.
Main Ingredients
- 2 handfuls of cabbage (approx. 200g, shredded as thinly as possible)
- 60g sliced ham (thinly julienned)
- 2 slices of cheddar cheese
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, shred the cabbage as thinly as possible. Thinly shredded cabbage will cook more tenderly and have a better texture.
Step 2
Briefly soak the shredded cabbage in cold water, then squeeze out as much moisture as possible. This step is crucial to prevent the batter from becoming too watery.
Step 3
Next, julienne the sliced ham into thin strips, similar in thickness to the shredded cabbage. The saltiness of the ham will complement the cabbage nicely.
Step 4
In a bowl, gently combine the squeezed cabbage and the julienned ham.
Step 5
In a separate bowl, crack the 2 eggs.
Step 6
Add a generous pinch of black pepper to the eggs and whisk them well. Then, pour the egg mixture over the cabbage and ham and mix thoroughly to create the batter. Adjust the consistency if needed; it shouldn’t be too runny.

Heat a non-stick pan over medium-low heat with a little vegetable oil. Ladle a portion of the batter onto the pan and spread it out thinly and evenly. Cooking over low heat ensures it cooks through without burning.

Once the bottom side is golden brown and cooked, carefully flip the pancake and cook the other side until golden brown as well. Cook gently until it’s tender throughout.
Step 9
Lay a large sheet of parchment paper on a flat surface. Carefully transfer the cooked cabbage pancake onto the parchment paper. The parchment paper will be very helpful for shaping later.
Step 10
Cut each slice of cheddar cheese in half. Arrange the cheese pieces on top of the cabbage pancake as shown in the photo. Placing one half of a cheese slice near the edge of the pancake will act as a ‘glue’ when rolling, helping to seal the roll.
Step 11
Using the parchment paper, carefully roll up the cabbage pancake tightly, similar to how you would roll sushi. Once rolled, leave the parchment paper on for a few minutes to help the roll set and hold its shape. The heat will help it firm up.
Step 12
After about 5 minutes, gently remove the parchment paper. The roll should now hold its shape. Slice the roll into bite-sized pieces. (Be careful if your knife isn’t very sharp, as it might cause the roll to crumble.)
Step 13
Arrange the sliced cabbage and cheese rolls on a plate. Drizzle with Sriracha sauce to your liking, and you’ll have a delicious and filling diet meal! Enjoy your healthy creation.
