Chapaguri: Recreating the Iconic Taste from the Movie ‘Parasite’
Chapaguri, the Viral Dish from the Movie ‘Parasite’
Curiosity about the unique taste of Chapaguri from the globally acclaimed movie ‘Parasite’ has been lingering, prompting me to finally prepare this dish after stocking up on the necessary ramen. While the movie version featured beef for an even richer flavor, I’ve opted to omit the beef to suit my personal preference and focus on the intrinsic flavors of the ramen. Join me in recreating this delectable fusion dish at home!
Ingredients- Neoguri Ramen 1 pack
- Jjapaghetti Ramen 1 pack
- Water 600ml (approx. 3 cups)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, gather your Neoguri ramen and Jjapaghetti ramen. These two distinct flavors will combine to create a truly special taste.
Step 2
In a deep pot or wok, add 600ml of water and bring it to a rolling boil. Once boiling, add the ‘vegetable mix’ and ‘black bean powder soup base’ from the Jjapaghetti ramen, but set aside the ‘oil packet’ for later. For the Neoguri ramen’s ‘powdered soup base’, add only about half to start, as it can be quite potent. This careful addition will ensure a harmonious blend of savory black bean sauce and a hint of Neoguri’s spice.
Step 3
Now, add both the Neoguri and Jjapaghetti ramen noodles to the boiling water. The water level might seem a bit low initially, but as you begin to stir and toss the noodles with chopsticks or tongs, they will loosen up. Gently agitating the noodles throughout cooking prevents sticking and helps the seasonings distribute evenly.
Step 4
As the noodles cook and the liquid starts to reduce, it’s time to add the reserved ‘oil packet’ from the Jjapaghetti ramen. This packet is key to unlocking that signature savory depth and rich aroma of Chapaguri. Stir well to incorporate it into the noodles and sauce.
Step 5
This is the final stir-frying stage. Continue to cook until the liquid has almost completely evaporated, allowing the noodles to become thoroughly coated and infused with the delicious sauce. Keep stirring over low heat to prevent sticking. For an extra layer of flavor, you could briefly increase the heat to high for a quick char, but be careful not to burn it.
Step 6
Transfer the perfectly cooked Chapaguri to a serving bowl. Enjoy this delightful dish as a special meal, reminiscent of the iconic movie scene, or as a satisfying and quick snack. Enjoy your homemade Chapaguri!
