Pasta Ingredients
  • Spaghetti 2 handfuls (approx. 200g)
  • 1 Tbsp coarse salt (for boiling pasta)
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Pinch of dried parsley (for garnish)

Rich Meat Sauce Ingredients
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • ½ medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 150g ground beef
  • ⅓ tsp ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of herb salt (or salt and pepper to taste)
  • 2 ½ cups prepared tomato sauce
  • ½ cup water
  • 3 Tbsp canned kidney beans (or chickpeas), drained
  • Pinch of crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until the onion becomes translucent and fragrant, then lightly browned.

Step 2

Add the ground beef to the pan. Sprinkle with ⅓ teaspoon of nutmeg and a pinch of herb salt (or regular salt and pepper). Break up the meat with a spoon or fork and cook until it’s fully browned and any liquid has evaporated. Ensure the meat is thoroughly cooked.

Step 3

Once the beef is cooked, pour in 2 ½ cups of tomato sauce and ½ cup of water. Stir in the drained kidney beans (or chickpeas) and crushed red pepper flakes, if using. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 5-7 minutes over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens to a rich, hearty consistency.

Step 4

In a large pot, bring 1 liter of water to a rolling boil. Add 1 tablespoon of coarse salt. Add 2 handfuls of spaghetti and cook for about 8 minutes, or 1-2 minutes less than the package instructions. This ensures the pasta is al dente and perfect for finishing with the sauce. Drain the pasta well.

Step 5

Arrange the drained spaghetti on a serving plate. Generously spoon the warm, thick meat sauce over the pasta. Finally, sprinkle with 1 ½ cups of shredded cheddar cheese and a pinch of dried parsley for a beautiful finish. Serve immediately while hot for the best cheesy experience!
