Cherry Blossom Rolled Omelette
Making the Trendy Cherry Blossom Rolled Omelette Inspired by TV
Recently, I was inspired by a TV cooking show featuring a ‘Cherry Blossom Rolled Omelette’ and decided to try making it myself. This visually appealing and delicious rolled omelette is perfect for adding a special touch to your meal.
Ingredients- 5 fresh eggs
- 50 grams sausage
- 1/2 stalk green onion (green parts only)
- 1 tablespoon mirin (cooking wine)
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 tablespoon cooking oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare 5 eggs, the green parts of the green onion, and about 50 grams of sausage. Thinner sausages are better for creating the flower shape.
Step 2
Add 1 tablespoon of mirin to the 5 eggs. This helps remove any eggy smell and adds a subtle flavor.
Step 3
Separate the yolks and whites from about 2 eggs. For the remaining eggs, whisk the whites and yolks together. We’ll use the separated whites later.
Step 4
Add 1 pinch of salt to the mixed egg mixture and gently whisk. Be careful not to create too much foam; a gentle whisking motion is best.
Step 5
Thinly slice the sausage. This will make it easier to cut out flower shapes and create a delicate petal effect.
Step 6
Use a small flower-shaped cutter to cut out shapes from the thinly sliced sausage. Finely mince any remaining sausage and mix it into the yolk egg mixture. Adding minced sausage provides color and texture within the omelette.
Step 7
Heat a non-stick frying pan over medium-low heat. Add 1 tablespoon of cooking oil, then wipe the pan evenly with a paper towel to create a thin, even layer of oil. This prevents the omelette from sticking and ensures a clean roll.
Step 8
Finely chop the green parts of the green onion into small pieces, or cut them into a few thin long strands. These will add a fresh green color to the inside of the omelette.
Step 9
Maintaining medium heat, pour the yolk egg mixture thinly and evenly across the pan. Once the egg begins to set, carefully start rolling it up from one side.
Step 10
Gently push the rolled yolk omelette to the edge of the pan. Pour a little of the separated egg white mixture into the empty space. Arrange the sausage cherry blossom shapes along the bottom of the pan where the new egg white is poured.
Step 11
Pour the remaining egg white mixture over the sausage shapes and the previous roll. Continue to slowly and carefully roll the omelette. As the egg white cooks, layer the chopped green onion on top to create a decorative ‘leaf’ effect. Building it up in layers makes for a fuller omelette.
Step 12
Your first attempt might not be perfect, but don’t worry! With a little practice, you’ll get the hang of it and be able to make beautiful cherry blossom omelettes. Keep trying!
Step 13
While the finished omelette wasn’t exactly as perfect as I’d hoped, I’m reasonably pleased with my first try. I’m confident I can do better next time!
Step 14
Transfer the completed cherry blossom omelette to a serving plate. It looks even more appealing when presented nicely.
Step 15
When sliced, the sunny yellow interior, the pretty cherry blossom shapes, and the green onion create a beautiful cross-section. It’s as delicious as it looks!
