Chewy & Crispy Stir-fried Fish Cakes with Garlic Scapes
Delicious Stir-fried Fish Cakes with Garlic Scapes Using Simple Ingredients
We’ve stir-fried fish cakes with garlic scapes, which are in season and abundant right now. They’re chewy, crisp, and can be made deliciously with simple ingredients.
Ingredients- 3 thick fish cakes
- 1/2 bunch garlic scapes (approx. 50g)
- A little canola oil or cooking oil
- 2 tsp spicy oyster sauce
- 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the garlic scapes thoroughly under running water, pat them dry, and cut them into bite-sized pieces about 3 cm long. Then, cut the thick fish cakes into similar sizes as the garlic scapes.
Step 2
Heat about 1-2 teaspoons of canola oil in a wok or frying pan. Add the chopped garlic scapes and stir-fry briefly over medium heat to release their aroma. Be careful not to overcook, as they can become mushy.
Step 3
Once the garlic scapes start to soften slightly, add 1 teaspoon of spicy oyster sauce along the edge of the pan.
Step 4
Continue to stir-fry for another 30 seconds with the garlic scapes to allow the sauce to penetrate.
Step 5
Gently push the stir-fried garlic scapes to one side of the pan. Place the cut fish cakes in the empty space and drizzle the remaining 1 teaspoon of spicy oyster sauce over them.
Step 6
Mix the fish cakes and garlic scapes together and continue to stir-fry over medium-low heat for about 2-3 minutes. It’s important to cook until the fish cakes absorb the sauce evenly and become chewy.
Step 7
Once all ingredients are well stir-fried, turn off the heat and sprinkle 1 teaspoon of toasted sesame seeds.
Step 8
Finally, give the pan a quick toss to distribute the nutty aroma of the sesame seeds throughout. Stirring after turning off the heat prevents the sesame seeds from burning and preserves their savory flavor.
Step 9
Transfer the finished stir-fried fish cakes with garlic scapes to a serving plate for a delicious side dish!
