Chewy Dried Shrimp Powder Bangpum Namul Pancake Recipe
A Unique Delicacy, Boost Umami with Dried Shrimp Powder! Bangpum Namul Pancake Golden Recipe
Introducing a special dish using aromatic Bangpum Namul: Bangpum Namul Buchimgae (pancake). Initially, I debated between making a refreshing Bangpum Namul salad or a pancake. In the end, I decided to make the Bangpum Namul pancake first. However, since we had Bangpum Namul pancakes just two days ago, this time I opted for a more unique ‘Bangpum Namul Buchimgae’! My mother readily agreed. While using the same ingredients as the Bangpum Namul pancake, a slight change in preparation makes it easier and more enjoyable to savor. If the Bangpum Namul pancake involved carefully coating each piece of Bangpum Namul in batter and frying it until golden brown, the Bangpum Namul Buchimgae involves spreading the batter thinly over the entire pan and frying it all at once into one large pancake, making it much simpler. It’s delicious either way, but I have my own special secret powder – ‘dried shrimp powder’! Those who have visited my blog before will already know, but for first-time visitors, I’ll mention it again. Thanks to this dried shrimp powder, what could have been an ordinary Bangpum Namul Buchimgae boasts an extraordinary umami flavor. Curious? I’ll reveal how to make this delicious Bangpum Namul Buchimgae right now!
Ingredients- 1 handful of fresh Bangpum Namul
- 1 cup pancake mix
- 2/3 cup cold water
- 1 Tbsp dried shrimp powder
- A pinch of salt
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the fresh Bangpum Namul thoroughly under running water. At this stage, trim off any tough or unsightly stems, preparing only the clean greens.
Step 2
Next, cut the washed and trimmed Bangpum Namul into large pieces, about 2cm apart. Cutting it too finely might diminish the texture, so chop it into bite-sized pieces.
Step 3
In a bowl, combine the prepared Bangpum Namul, 1 cup of pancake mix, 2/3 cup of cold water, 1 Tbsp of dried shrimp powder, and a pinch of salt. Mix everything with a spoon or whisk to create the batter. Stir until it’s a smooth consistency without lumps.
Step 4
Heat a pan with a generous amount of cooking oil. Ladle in the batter and spread it thinly across the entire pan. Cook over medium-low heat until golden brown and crispy on both sides to complete your delicious Bangpum Namul Buchimgae. Once the edges are crisp, flip and cook the other side similarly.
