- Cooking oil, as needed (To coat the pan and fry until golden brown)
- Sesame seeds, a pinch (Adds a nutty aroma)
- Black sesame seeds, a pinch (For a unique color and nutty flavor)
- 1 tsp salt (For seasoning the squid and overall taste)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic (Enhances flavor and removes any fishiness from the squid)
- Cooking oil, as needed (To coat the pan and fry until golden brown)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare all your ingredients. Clean the squid by removing the skin. Bring a pot of water to a boil with a pinch of salt, and briefly blanch the squid for about 30 seconds to 1 minute. Be careful not to overcook, as it can become tough. Once blanched, cut the squid into similar lengths as your prepared vegetables (green onions and bell peppers). Lightly season the squid with minced garlic and a little salt for enhanced flavor.
Step 2
Now it’s time to assemble the skewers! Thread the ingredients onto skewers in the following order: squid – red bell pepper – green onion – yellow bell pepper – squid. Arranging them tightly will make the skewers look beautiful and appetizing.
Step 3
Lightly coat the assembled skewers with wheat flour. Dusting them gently with flour will help the egg mixture adhere better and result in a crispier skewer when fried.
Step 4
Prepare the egg mixture. Crack 8 eggs into a bowl. It’s best to divide them into two batches of 4 eggs each rather than using all at once for a smoother coating. For the first batch, whisk 4 eggs with minced garlic, black sesame seeds, and sesame seeds until well combined. Repeat the same process for the remaining 4 eggs. This method ensures a smooth and lump-free egg batter.
Step 5
Dip the flour-coated skewers into the prepared egg mixture, ensuring both sides are thoroughly coated. A complete egg coating will give the skewers a beautiful golden color and delicious taste when cooked.
Step 6
Heat a frying pan over medium-low heat and add a generous amount of cooking oil. Carefully place the egg-coated skewers in the pan. While frying, gently press down on the skewers with a spatula to help them maintain their shape and cook evenly. Fry until both sides are golden brown and cooked through. Your delicious squid Sanjeok skewers are now ready to be enjoyed!
