Main Ingredients- Spam (Large can) 1/3 can
- Onion 1/4
- Fresh Squid 1 (approx. 150-200g)
- Cooking Oil 1 Tbsp
- Green Onion (for garnish, optional) 1 stalk
Seasoning- Soy Sauce 1 tsp
- Sesame Seeds (Gomashio) a pinch
- Fine Salt a pinch
- Soy Sauce 1 tsp
- Sesame Seeds (Gomashio) a pinch
- Fine Salt a pinch
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the squid. Do not cut open the squid’s belly; instead, carefully remove the innards. Bring a pot of water to a boil with a pinch of salt, and blanch the squid for about 1 minute. Be careful not to overcook it, or it will become tough! Once blanched, rinse the squid under cold water, drain well, and slice it into bite-sized rings. Peel and thinly slice the onion.
Step 2
Next, we’ll prepare the Spam. Open the Spam can and slice it into pieces that are similar in size to the squid rings, or into comfortable bite-sized pieces (about 0.5 cm thick).
Step 3
Wash the green onion thoroughly and chop it finely. Green onions add flavor and color at the end of the dish, so even if you omit them, consider using a small amount if you enjoy their fresh aroma.
Step 4
Now, let’s start stir-frying! Heat a pan over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of cooking oil. Add the sliced onions and a pinch of fine salt. Sauté the onions for about 1 minute until they become translucent. Adding a pinch of salt will enhance the sweetness of the onions.
Step 5
Once the onions are slightly softened, add the sliced Spam and blanched squid to the pan. Stir-fry over medium-high heat for about 1-2 minutes, ensuring the ingredients are well combined.
Step 6
Finally, let’s add the seasoning. Drizzle 1 teaspoon of soy sauce evenly over the ingredients in the pan. Stir and cook for another 30 seconds to 1 minute, allowing the soy sauce to coat everything evenly. Be careful not to burn the soy sauce; you want a nice glaze.
Step 7
There you have it! Your delicious Squid and Spam Stir-fry is ready. Transfer the stir-fry to a serving plate. Garnish with the chopped green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds for extra flavor and visual appeal. Enjoy this delightful dish with a bowl of warm rice!
