Egg Mayo Sauce Ingredients- 1/2 Tbsp Whole Grain Mustard
- 3 Tbsp Mayonnaise
- 2 pinches Salt
- 2 pinches Pepper
- 1/2 Tbsp Whole Grain Mustard
- 3 Tbsp Mayonnaise
- 2 pinches Salt
- 2 pinches Pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the delicious filling for our hotteok. Wash the chives thoroughly and finely chop them. Finely dice the sausage as well. Separate the egg yolks and whites. Pass the yolks through a sieve for a smoother texture, and finely mince the egg whites. Combine all these ingredients in a bowl. Add 1/2 tablespoon of whole grain mustard, 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise, 2 pinches of salt, and 2 pinches of pepper. Mix everything well to create a rich and flavorful chive and egg mayo filling.
Step 2
Gently stir the egg mayo and chive mixture with a spatula or spoon until all ingredients are evenly combined and there are no lumps. Thorough mixing ensures the best flavor for your hotteok filling.
Step 3
Open the hotteok mix package and check its contents. Typically, you’ll find a hotteok premix, a sugar-filled jam mix, and dry yeast. Today, we’ll skip the jam mix and use our homemade chive and egg mayo filling to create a special kind of hotteok.
Step 4
Follow the instructions on the hotteok mix packaging. Combine the hotteok premix, dry yeast, and the specified amount of warm water in a bowl. Measuring accurately according to the package directions makes dough preparation very straightforward.
Step 5
Mix the ingredients thoroughly until a dough forms. Initially, the flour and water might seem separate, but as you continue mixing, they will gradually come together to form a cohesive, slightly sticky dough. Don’t worry if it sticks to your hands a bit; keep mixing until it’s well combined.
Step 6
Now it’s time to shape the hotteok. Lightly oil your hands to prevent sticking. Take a portion of the dough, flatten it into a circle, and generously fill it with the prepared chive and egg mayo mixture. Carefully pinch the edges of the dough together to seal the filling inside, then gently shape it into a round, flat hotteok. Ensure the filling is completely enclosed to prevent leakage during cooking.
Step 7
Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Place the shaped hotteoks into the hot oil. Cook them, flipping occasionally, until they are golden brown and crispy on both sides. Ensure they cook through evenly, achieving a crispy exterior and a warm, chewy interior.
Step 8
Voila! Your easy SungSimDang-style chive hotteok, made with a hotteok mix, is ready! This delightful hotteok is packed with a rich egg mayo filling complemented by savory sausage and fragrant chives. Enjoying a warm, freshly cooked hotteok is an absolute delight! The subtle aroma of chives adds an extra layer of deliciousness, making this chive hotteok truly special. Thanks to the hotteok mix, you can effortlessly create this wonderful treat without the hassle of making dough from scratch.
