Main Ingredients- 3 slices of Bread
- 3 strips of thick-cut Bacon
- 1 ripe Tomato
- Fresh Lettuce leaves
- 1-2 slices of Cheddar Cheese
- Dill Pickles (sliced or whole), to taste
Spreads & Condiments- Butter, softened
- 2-3 Tbsp Mayonnaise
- 1-2 Tbsp Mustard
- Butter, softened
- 2-3 Tbsp Mayonnaise
- 1-2 Tbsp Mustard
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Begin by thoroughly washing your fresh lettuce leaves under running water and patting them completely dry. Tear them into large, bite-sized pieces. Thinly slice the ripe tomato. In a non-stick skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon strips until crispy, without adding any oil. Transfer the cooked bacon to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess grease. For the pickles, using store-bought dill pickles, either sliced or whole, will enhance the sandwich’s flavor profile compared to homemade ones.
Step 2
Toast the bread slices either in a toaster or lightly grill them in a dry skillet. Lightly toasting the bread adds a pleasant crunch and prevents the sandwich from becoming soggy as the spreads are applied.
Step 3
Let’s start assembling! On one slice of the toasted bread that will serve as the base, spread a mixture of mayonnaise and softened butter. This combination adds richness and helps meld the flavors. Next, generously layer the prepared lettuce leaves, followed by the thinly sliced tomato.
Step 4
Prepare the middle slice of bread by spreading mustard thinly on both sides. The slight tang of the mustard will provide a refreshing counterpoint to the other ingredients.
Step 5
Carefully place the mustard-spread bread slice on top of the tomatoes. Then, add another generous layer of lettuce. To recap the assembly so far: (bottom) Bread with mayo-butter spread -> Lettuce -> Tomato -> Bread with mustard spread -> Lettuce.
Step 6
Before adding the final top slice, place 1-2 slices of cheddar cheese over the lettuce. This adds a creamy, savory element that complements the other ingredients beautifully.
Step 7
Arrange the crispy, drained bacon strips over the cheese. Then, generously pile on the dill pickles for a zesty crunch. Finally, spread a thin layer of mayonnaise on one side of the remaining bread slice. This acts as a ‘glue’ for the pickles and adds a final touch of creaminess. Gently place this bread slice, mayo-side down, onto the pickles. Your delicious Classic Sandwich is now complete! Slice it in half and enjoy.
