  • 2 Somssidang ‘Today’s Broth’ Anchovy Flavor Packets
  • 4 cups Water (approx. 800ml)
  • 20cm Green Onion
  • 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce for Soup (Gukganjang)
  • 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
  • Pinch of Black Pepper

Optional Garnishes
  • Thinly sliced omelet (egg crepe)
  • Stir-fried zucchini (thinly sliced and lightly sautéed)
  • Stir-fried shiitake mushrooms (stem removed, thinly sliced and sautéed)
  • Shredded seaweed (Gim)
  • Crushed sesame seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, pour 4 cups of water (approx. 800ml) into a pot and bring it to a boil over high heat. Once the water is vigorously boiling, add 2 Somssidang ‘Today’s Broth’ anchovy flavor packets and stir well to dissolve. Let the broth simmer until the packets are fully dissolved and the liquid becomes clear.

Step 2

Once the broth is simmering, add 150g of tteokguk rice cakes. Gently stir to prevent the rice cakes from sticking together. Be careful to prevent them from sticking to the bottom of the pot as they cook. Add 1 Tbsp of soy sauce for soup (Gukganjang) to provide a basic seasoning for the tteokguk. It’s best to add soy sauce gradually and taste rather than adding too much at once.

Step 3

When the rice cakes start to become soft and tender, reduce the heat to medium-low. Add 1 Tbsp of minced garlic and a pinch of black pepper to enhance the flavor of the tteokguk. Finally, add the 20cm long chopped green onion and simmer for another moment until the delicious tteokguk broth is ready. Let it simmer for another 1-2 minutes to allow the green onion’s aroma to infuse into the broth.

Step 4

Carefully ladle the finished tteokguk into a serving bowl. Arrange your chosen garnishes, such as the thinly sliced omelet, stir-fried zucchini, and stir-fried shiitake mushrooms, attractively on top. Sprinkle with shredded seaweed and crushed sesame seeds for a beautiful presentation. Enjoy it hot for the best flavor.
