Cod Cream Gratin for Babies
Creamy Cod Gratin with Cream Sauce – Perfect for Baby’s Later Stage Diet
I made a creamy cod gratin with cream sauce, ideal for babies in their later stages of eating solids. This recipe is nutritious and surprisingly easy to prepare.
Ingredients- 1 pack (or 2 pieces) prepared cod fillet
- 2 sachets of broth (vegetable or anchovy broth)
- A small amount of carrot (finely chopped for baby)
- A small amount of onion (finely chopped for baby)
- A small amount of broccoli (finely chopped for baby)
- A small amount of bell pepper (finely chopped for baby)
- 1-2 slices of baby cheese
- 100ml milk (or breast milk/formula)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the fresh cod fillet. Using a pre-packaged, prepared cod fillet from the supermarket is convenient. You’ll need about two pieces from one pack for your baby.
Step 2
Wash and prepare the vegetables for the gratin. Feel free to use any leftover vegetables you have in the refrigerator to add variety.
Step 3
Gently steam the prepared cod fillet. Steaming helps to reduce any fishy smell and creates a softer texture that’s perfect for babies.
Step 4
Once steamed, flake the cod meat with a fork or carefully remove the flesh, ensuring there are no bones. Double-check for any stray bones.
Step 5
Finely chop the prepared vegetables (carrot, onion, broccoli, bell pepper, etc.) into pieces small enough for your baby to chew easily. Even chopping is important for consistent cooking.
Step 6
Pour 2 sachets of broth into a pot and add all the finely chopped vegetables. The amount of broth should be enough to mostly cover the vegetables so they can cook thoroughly.
Step 7
Bring the broth and vegetables to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium. This prevents the vegetables from burning and ensures they cook gently.
Step 8
Continue cooking over medium heat until the vegetables are tender and soft in the broth. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
Step 9
When the vegetables are almost cooked, add a portion of cooked rice. Break up any clumps of rice as you stir it in with the vegetables.
Step 10
After the rice and vegetables are well combined, slowly pour in the milk. For babies aged 15-17 months in their later stage diet, you can substitute the milk with breast milk or formula. Adjust the amount to achieve your desired consistency.
Step 11
After adding the milk, stir everything gently and let it simmer for a short while longer. Cook until the mixture thickens to a creamy sauce consistency.
Step 12
Finally, add 1-2 slices of baby cheese and stir until melted. This completes your creamy and savory cod gratin! For an extra golden and delicious finish, you can briefly bake it in an oven or air fryer.
