  • 2 bowls of warm cooked rice
  • 100g ham (sliced or cubed)
  • 1/4 red bell pepper
  • 1/4 yellow bell pepper
  • 1/4 onion

  • 1/2 tsp herb salt (or a pinch of salt and pepper)

First, remove the seeds from the red and yellow bell peppers and dice them very finely. Finely dice the onion as well, to a similar size as the bell peppers. Chopping the vegetables small ensures they mix well with the rice and are less intimidating for children.

Cut the ham into bite-sized pieces. You can dice them into cubes or, if using sliced ham, cut them into manageable pieces.

Heat a pan over medium heat with a little cooking oil. Add the sliced ham first and stir-fry until it’s lightly browned and has released some of its fat. This process enhances the flavor.

Once the ham is cooked and has rendered some fat, add the finely diced bell peppers and onion to the pan. Continue to stir-fry until the vegetables soften.

When the vegetables become translucent and release a fragrant aroma, add the warm cooked rice to the pan. It’s important to break up any clumps of rice with your spatula as you stir-fry to ensure even cooking.

Stir-fry the rice with the ham and vegetables, pressing down gently with the spatula so that all ingredients are well combined. Finally, season with herb salt to taste. If you don’t have herb salt, you can use regular salt and a pinch of pepper. Once everything is mixed together, your delicious bell pepper and ham fried rice is ready!
