Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, steam the sweet corn kernels for about 15 minutes until tender and slightly sweet. This enhances their natural flavor and creates a lovely texture.
Step 2
Prepare the filling ingredients. Finely shred the cabbage and finely chop the onion. Dice the ham into small, manageable pieces. Combine all these prepared ingredients in a bowl.
Step 3
Wash the bell peppers thoroughly under running water and pat them completely dry with paper towels. Carefully slice off the top 3cm of each bell pepper to create a lid. Scoop out the seeds and pith from the inside of the bell peppers, making sure not to pierce the skin. This step prepares the bell peppers to be filled.
Step 4
Trim the cut lid of the bell pepper to a height of about 3cm. This ensures the lid fits nicely and the gratin holds its shape well when baked.
Step 5
Now, generously stuff the prepared mixture into the hollowed-out bell peppers. The raw vegetables and ham will cook together beautifully inside the pepper.
Step 6
Top the filled bell peppers generously with shredded mozzarella cheese. The melting cheese will create a wonderfully gooey and savory layer. For an extra touch of color and sweetness, sprinkle some additional corn kernels and chopped parsley over the cheese.
Step 7
Bake in a preheated oven at 190°C (375°F) for approximately 13-15 minutes, or until the mozzarella cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden brown. (Tip: You don’t need to bake the bell pepper lids separately; they can be baked alongside the filled peppers to retain their moisture and flavor.)
