Colorful Five-Color Skewer Pancakes
Easily Make Beautiful Five-Color Skewer Pancakes for a Festive Table
I’ve made vibrant, multi-colored skewer pancakes! The ingredients are easy to find and simple to prepare.
Main Ingredients- 7 strips of kimbap ham (approx. 5.5 inches / 14cm long)
- 3 sticks of imitation crab meat (approx. 5.5 inches / 14cm long)
- 5 strips of pickled radish (danmuji, approx. 5.5 inches / 14cm long)
- 1 bunch of green onions (approx. 5.5 inches / 14cm long)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the ingredients that will be threaded onto the skewers. Cut the kimbap ham into lengths of about 4-5 cm (about 2 inches). Slice the imitation crab sticks to a similar length as the ham for a uniform appearance on the skewer.
Step 2
Trim and wash the green onions thoroughly. Cut them to match the length of the ham and crab sticks, about 4-5 cm (about 2 inches) including the green parts. Cutting them to this size makes them easy to skewer and helps maintain their shape while cooking.
Step 3
Slice the pickled radish (danmuji) to the same length as the other ingredients, about 4-5 cm (about 2 inches). The pickled radish adds a lovely pop of color and slight tang, so keeping the lengths consistent is key for presentation.
Step 4
Now, all the ingredients for your skewer pancakes – ham, imitation crab, pickled radish, and green onions – are ready. Don’t they already look beautifully colorful?
Step 5
Thread the prepared ingredients onto the skewers in an alternating pattern. Consider the color harmony when arranging them; for instance, ham, imitation crab, pickled radish, and green onion can create a visually appealing sequence. Ensure the ingredients are secure on the skewer and that the ends are relatively even for neatness.
Step 6
In a bowl, crack the 2 large eggs and add a pinch of salt. The salt helps to enhance the flavor and balance the eggy taste. Whisk the eggs until smooth and well combined, ensuring there are no streaks of yolk or white. A smoothly beaten egg mixture prevents clumps on the pancake.
Step 7
Arrange the assembled skewers neatly on a large tray or plate. Having them laid out like this will make the next steps of coating them with flour and egg batter much easier.
Step 8
Using a sieve, lightly dust each skewer with all-purpose flour. This step ensures a thin, even coating of flour over all the ingredients.
Step 9
Using a sieve to apply the flour prevents it from clumping and results in a cleaner, more delicate finish on the finished pancakes. Gently tap the sieve to ensure the flour coats the skewers evenly.
Step 10
Dip the flour-coated skewers into the beaten egg mixture. Make sure each skewer is fully submerged and coated on all sides. Gently turn them to ensure an even layer of egg batter covers the flour.
Step 11
Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add enough cooking oil to lightly coat the bottom. Carefully place the egg-battered skewers into the hot pan. It’s important to maintain a moderate heat; a pan that’s too cool will prevent crisping, while one that’s too hot can burn the pancakes quickly.
Step 12
Fry the skewer pancakes over medium-low heat until golden brown and slightly crispy on both sides. Once one side is nicely browned, flip them over to cook the other side evenly. Continue cooking until all ingredients are heated through and the exterior is a beautiful golden hue.
Step 13
Your vibrant Five-Color Skewer Pancakes are now complete! They look absolutely delicious and will add a wonderful festive touch to any meal.
