Rice & Seaweed
  • 6 bowls of cooked rice
  • 8 sheets of dried seaweed (gim)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Prepare the rice for ‘nude’ gimbap. If you don’t have a bamboo mat, lay out 2-3 layers of plastic wrap. Spread the cooked rice thinly and evenly to fit the size of the seaweed sheet. It’s important to spread the rice gently so it doesn’t clump together.

Step 2

Place a sheet of seaweed on top of the spread rice on the plastic wrap. Placing the rough side of the seaweed facing up will help the rice adhere better.

Step 3

Prepare the gimbap fillings. Julienne the cucumber, carrot, ham, and fish cakes. Sauté each in a lightly oiled pan with a pinch of salt. Beat the eggs with salt and fry thinly into an omelet, then slice into strips. Drain the pickled radish and seasoned burdock root and slice them into strips. For the tuna filling, drain the oil from the can, mix with mayonnaise, salt, and pepper (optional) until well combined.

Step 4

Using the plastic wrap, tightly roll the gimbap. Ensure the edges are completely rolled to prevent it from unraveling. Roll the gimbap to shape it firmly.

Step 5

Now, let’s make gimbap with the tuna mayo filling. Place a sheet of seaweed, spread rice on it, then add the prepared tuna mayo and other vegetables. Roll it tightly as done in step 3. You can enjoy various flavors by using different fillings.

Step 6

Next, we’ll make the visually appealing rolled omelet gimbap. Crack 2 eggs into a bowl, add a pinch of salt, and beat well. This will be the thick omelet layer that wraps the outside of the gimbap.

Step 7

Heat a lightly oiled pan over low heat. Pour the beaten egg mixture thinly to create an omelet. Frying it in thin layers multiple times will result in a beautiful rolled omelet gimbap.

Step 8

When the back side of the egg omelet is almost cooked, place the prepared gimbap roll on top of it. Do NOT flip the egg omelet at this stage, as it can tear easily and prevent the gimbap from rolling properly.

Step 9

The key to a good rolled omelet gimbap is rolling it skillfully. Gently roll the gimbap, ensuring the omelet doesn’t tear, to form a tight roll. Continue to roll it a few more times so the rice sticks well to the omelet and the shape is set.

Step 10

Your colorful and beautiful rolled omelet gimbap is now complete. The soft omelet exterior combined with the savory filling creates a harmonious flavor experience.

Step 11

Finally, finely chop any leftover vegetable scraps. You can easily make inari sushi using store-bought seasoned fried tofu pouches. Mix the chopped vegetables with sushi rice seasoning.

Step 12

Fill the seasoned tofu pouches with the prepared sushi rice. Be careful not to overfill, as it might burst. Fill them to an appropriate level.

Step 13

Arrange the inari sushi into bite-sized portions for a beautiful presentation. Complete your festive meal with this variety of gimbap and sushi.
