Main Ingredients- 2 cups Tteokguk rice cakes (approx. 300-400g)
- 1 cup Milk (200ml)
- 1/2 cup Heavy cream (100ml)
- 1/4 Onion
- 1/4 Broccoli
- 2 cloves Garlic
- 2 strips Bacon
- 1 slice Cheddar cheese
- 1 Tbsp Parmesan cheese
- Salt to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper to taste
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Begin by preparing your aromatics and vegetables. Mince or thinly slice the garlic. Finely chop the onion. Cut the broccoli into bite-sized florets. Slice the bacon into 1cm pieces. Rinse the tteokguk rice cakes under cold water to prevent them from sticking together.
Step 2
Heat a lightly oiled pan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, being careful not to burn it. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent. Once the onions are softened, add the sliced bacon and broccoli florets. Sauté everything together until the bacon is lightly browned and the broccoli turns a vibrant green. The rendered bacon fat will add extra flavor.
Step 3
Pour in 1 cup of milk and 1/2 cup of heavy cream into the pan with the sautéed ingredients. Stir gently and bring the sauce to a simmer over medium-low heat. Continue to stir as the sauce heats up, ensuring it becomes smooth and creamy.
Step 4
Once the sauce is simmering, add the prepared tteokguk rice cakes. Cook, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking, until the rice cakes are tender and the sauce has thickened slightly. The cooking time may vary depending on the rice cakes, so check for desired softness.
Step 5
When the rice cakes are cooked to your liking, stir in 1 tablespoon of grated Parmesan cheese and 1 slice of cheddar cheese until fully melted and incorporated into the sauce. The sauce should become even richer and creamier. Just before turning off the heat, season with freshly ground black pepper. Taste the tteokbokki and add salt if needed to adjust the seasoning. Your delicious Carbonara Tteokbokki is now ready to be enjoyed!
