Essential Ingredients

  • 5 imitation crab sticks (kani kama)
  • 2/3 bowl of cooked rice (warm)
  • 1 packet of store-bought Inari sushi kit (includes seasoning for rice and vinegar)
  • 1/4 onion

Seasoning Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp honey mustard
  • 3.5 Tbsp mayonnaise
  • Pinch of black pepper

First, finely mince the 1/4 onion. To mellow its sharpness and enhance its texture, soak the minced onion in cold water for about 5 minutes. After soaking, drain it thoroughly in a sieve, ensuring all excess water is removed. This step makes the onion crisp yet mild.

Gently shred the 5 imitation crab sticks lengthwise using your fingers or chopsticks. In a bowl, combine the shredded crab sticks, the drained minced onion, 1 tablespoon of honey mustard, 3.5 tablespoons of mayonnaise, and a pinch of black pepper. Mix everything together until well combined. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed, perhaps with a tiny pinch of salt.

In a separate bowl, add the warm cooked rice (about 2/3 of a bowl). Sprinkle in the rice seasoning (furikake) and vinegar mix from the Inari sushi kit. Gently mix the rice using a spatula or spoon, being careful not to mash the rice grains. Aim for fluffy, well-separated grains.
