Sandwich Ingredients- 5 Morning Buns
- 300g Shredded Cabbage
- 1/3 Carrot (thinly julienned)
- 1/2 Cucumber (thinly julienned)
- 1 Slice of Cheese (optional)
- 5 Tbsp Mayonnaise
- 1 Tbsp Ketchup
- 7 Slices of Sandwich Ham
Salting the Cabbage- 0.3 Tbsp Salt
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
- 2 Tbsp Vinegar
- 0.3 Tbsp Salt
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
- 2 Tbsp Vinegar
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the vegetables for the sandwich. Finely shred the cabbage. Thinly julienne the carrot and cucumber to a similar thickness as the cabbage. It’s also good to julienne the sandwich ham.
Step 2
In a bowl with the shredded cabbage, add 0.3 Tbsp of salt, 1 Tbsp of sugar, and 2 Tbsp of vinegar. Gently mix and let it sit for about 20 minutes to salt. This process wilts the cabbage slightly while keeping it crisp.
Step 3
While the cabbage is salting, prepare the morning buns. Carefully slice each bun in half horizontally with a knife. To make it easier to fill, avoid cutting all the way through; leave a small portion connected on one side.
Step 4
After about 20 minutes, the salted cabbage will release a considerable amount of water. Use a clean cheesecloth or paper towels to squeeze out as much liquid as possible. Properly draining the cabbage is key to preventing a soggy sandwich.
Step 5
To the drained cabbage, add the julienned ham, 5 Tbsp of mayonnaise, and 1 Tbsp of ketchup. Mix well to create the salad filling. You can add a pinch of black pepper to your liking. Generously fill the prepared morning buns with this salad mixture. If you enjoy cheese, placing a slice on top of the filling inside the bun adds a delicious touch.
