- 1 tsp Minced Garlic
- 1/2 tsp Sugar
- A pinch of Sesame Seeds
- 1 tsp Perilla Oil (Deulgireum)
- 1 tsp Sesame Oil (Chamgireum)
- A pinch of Black Pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Today, I’ll introduce you to a recipe for stir-fried sea mustard stems that are perfectly chewy and crisp. You can make a fantastic side dish with simple ingredients!
Step 2
First, the sea mustard stems you bought are salted and quite salty. Rinse them thoroughly under cold running water to remove excess salt. Be careful not to rinse for too long, or you’ll lose all the saltiness and need to add more seasoning later. Aim for a slightly salty taste. Squeeze out any excess water. Next, heat 1 tsp of perilla oil in a pan over low heat. Add 1 tsp of minced garlic and stir gently to create a fragrant garlic oil. Be careful not to burn the garlic!
Step 3
Once the garlic oil is fragrant, add the thinly julienned carrots and stir-fry them together. When the carrots start to soften slightly, add the drained sea mustard stems and stir-fry until all ingredients are well combined. As the sea mustard stems turn a vibrant green and start to look glossy, add 1/2 tsp of sugar for a touch of sweetness. Then, sprinkle in a pinch of sesame seeds, drizzle in 1 tsp of sesame oil, and add a pinch of black pepper to adjust the seasoning. Stir everything gently one more time to ensure the seasonings are evenly distributed.
Step 4
With this careful preparation, you’ll have a delicious and clean-tasting stir-fried sea mustard stem dish, free from any fishy odor! It’s absolutely delicious served over a bowl of warm rice.
