An Irresistible Dish: Sweet and Spicy ‘Ganpung Mandu’
Have you ever craved ‘Ganpung Mandu’ alongside the common ‘Tangsoo Mandu’? I decided to make it, and it turned out incredibly delicious! This is an easy method where you fry dumplings and then toss them in a flavorful sauce. Even with chili peppers added, it’s not overly spicy, but if you’re making it for children, consider omitting the peppers. This recipe offers a delightful balance of sweet, savory, and a hint of spice, perfect for a quick meal or a satisfying snack.
Dumplings & Vegetables- 8 pieces of store-bought dumplings
- 1 green chili pepper
- 1 red chili pepper
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 1/2 stalk of green onion
Ganpung Sauce- 1 Tbsp chili oil
- 1/2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp vinegar
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 1/2 Tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 Tbsp chili oil
- 1/2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp vinegar
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 1/2 Tbsp oyster sauce
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, heat a generous amount of oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the dumplings until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides. Once fried to perfection, transfer the dumplings to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
Step 2
Finely chop the green onion. Aim for about 0.5 cm thickness for a pleasant texture when mixed with the sauce.
Step 3
Thinly slice the garlic cloves into slivers. This will infuse the oil with a wonderful aroma, deepening the flavor of the Ganpung sauce.
Step 4
Remove the stems from the green and red chili peppers, wash them, and then thinly slice them. You can adjust the amount of chili peppers based on your spice preference. For a milder version, remove the seeds before slicing.
Step 5
In a small saucepan or pot, combine all the Ganpung sauce ingredients: chili oil, soy sauce, vinegar, sugar, and oyster sauce. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat. Once it slightly thickens and begins to bubble, immediately remove it from the heat to prevent burning.
Step 6
Add the fried dumplings to the prepared Ganpung sauce. Carefully toss them to coat evenly with the sauce. Be gentle to avoid breaking the dumplings. Toss quickly to maintain the crispiness of the fried dumplings. Your delicious Ganpung Mandu is ready to be enjoyed!
