Easy and Delicious Cabbage Salad
Here’s a super simple cabbage salad recipe that you can whip up in just 5 minutes using fresh cabbage from your fridge. Its crisp texture and sweet and tangy flavor are perfect as a side dish for rice when you don’t have much appetite, or as a complement to meat dishes! You can enjoy it deliciously even without many ingredients.
Main Ingredients- Cabbage 250g
- Carrot (for color) – a moderate amount
Seasoning- Salt (to taste)
- Minced garlic 1/2 Tbsp
- Sesame seeds (or ground sesame seeds)
- Sesame oil 1 Tbsp
- Salt (to taste)

Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, rinse the cabbage thoroughly under running water. Gently shake off excess water and place the cabbage in a microwave-safe plastic bag. Do not tie the bag. Microwave on the ‘vegetable steaming’ setting for about 4 minutes. This process slightly cooks the cabbage while maintaining its crisp texture. (If you don’t have a ‘vegetable steaming’ function, you can microwave on a regular setting for 3-4 minutes.)
Step 2
While the cabbage is microwaving, thinly julienne the carrot. Slicing the carrot thinly will help it blend well with the cabbage and make the dish visually appealing.
Step 3
Once removed from the microwave, let the cabbage cool slightly, then thinly slice it. Place the julienned cabbage in a bowl.
Step 4
Add the julienned carrot to the bowl with the cabbage, along with the seasoning ingredients. Add 1/2 Tbsp of minced garlic, sprinkle generously with sesame seeds, and add salt to your taste. It’s important to adjust the amount of salt based on the quantity of cabbage and your personal preference. Start with less salt and add more later if needed.
Step 5
Finally, drizzle with 1 Tbsp of sesame oil. Gently mix everything together with your hands or chopsticks until well combined. Be careful not to mix too vigorously, as this can make the cabbage mushy. Your delicious cabbage salad is ready! You can enjoy it immediately, or chill it in the refrigerator for a while for an even crisper texture.
