- Pinch of salt (for egg wash)
- 1 tsp sugar (for egg wash)
- 3 Tbsp milk (for egg wash)
- Bread crusts (trimmed from bread slices)
- Generous amount of cooking oil for frying
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the egg wash for coating the hot dogs. Crack 2 eggs into a bowl.
Step 2
Add a tiny pinch of salt to enhance the flavor.
Step 3
Stir in 1 teaspoon of sugar for a touch of sweetness.
Step 4
Pour in 3 tablespoons of milk to make the coating smoother and richer.
Step 5
Whisk everything together thoroughly with a whisk or fork until well combined and no lumps remain. You want a smooth, even batter.
Step 6
Now, prepare the bread. Trim off the crusts from the bread slices, as they can become hard when fried. (Don’t throw them away!)
Step 7
Take the trimmed crusts and place them in a blender or food processor. Pulse until finely ground into breadcrumbs. These will be used for the crispy coating.
Step 8
Using a rolling pin, flatten the white part of the bread slices until they are thin and rectangular. This will help you wrap the sausages snugly.
Step 9
Place a sausage at one end of the flattened bread slice. Brush a little bit of the prepared egg wash along the edge of the bread where the sausage will be wrapped. The egg wash acts as a sealant.
Step 10
Carefully roll the bread around the sausage, pressing gently to ensure it sticks. You should end up with a cute, plump hot dog shape.
Step 11
It’s time to coat the bread-wrapped hot dogs for frying. First, generously brush them all over with the egg wash you made earlier.
Step 12
Next, roll the egg-washed hot dogs in the breadcrumbs you made in step 6, ensuring they are fully coated. Press the breadcrumbs gently to help them adhere well.
Step 13
Now, let’s fry them. Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. To check if the oil is hot enough, drop a small piece of breadcrumb into the oil. If it sizzles and floats to the surface (‘pop!’), the oil is ready.
Step 14
Carefully place the coated hot dogs into the hot oil. Fry them, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides. Adjust the heat as needed to prevent burning.
Step 15
Once golden and crispy, remove the hot dogs from the pan and place them on a wire rack lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. This step is crucial for maintaining crispiness.
Step 16
Arrange the deliciously fried bread-wrapped hot dogs on a plate. Drizzle with ketchup and mustard to your liking. The combination of sweet and savory is simply irresistible! Enjoy your homemade treat today! ^^
