Cooking Instructions
Step 1
This recipe for sweet and sour fried dumplings uses frozen dumplings, making it quick and easy for anyone to prepare. The combination of crispy fried dumplings and a sweet and sour sauce is truly delightful. They make a perfect snack for kids or a satisfying treat when you’re craving something special!
Step 2
First, place the frozen dumplings in a bowl. Lightly drizzle about 1-2 tablespoons of cooking oil over the dumplings and toss to coat them evenly. This will help them achieve a crispier texture when cooked in the air fryer. To make cleanup easier and prevent sticking, line your air fryer basket with parchment paper. Then, arrange the oil-coated dumplings in a single layer.
Step 3
Preheat your air fryer to 180°C (350°F) and then place the dumplings inside. Cook for 15 minutes. I found that even without flipping them, they became nicely crispy on the bottom. After 15 minutes, check the dumplings for doneness. If they aren’t as crispy as you’d like, air fry for an additional 2 minutes.
Step 4
Now, let’s prepare the delicious sweet and sour sauce to accompany your crispy dumplings! Wash and prepare the vegetables for the sauce. Coarsely chop the onion. Slice the carrot and cucumber into similar-sized pieces. (You can also add ingredients like pineapple or bell peppers according to your preference.)
Step 5
Once the vegetables are prepped, heat 3 tablespoons of cooking oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, carrot, and cucumber and stir-fry them briefly until they are slightly tender but still have a bit of crunch. Once the vegetables are partially cooked, pour in 1/2 cup of water. Add a pinch of parsley flakes, 1 tablespoon of ketchup, and 1/2 cup of fruit cocktail (including its syrup). Bring this mixture to a boil.
Step 6
As the sauce begins to bubble, prepare a cornstarch slurry. In a small bowl, mix 1 teaspoon of cornstarch with a little cold water until smooth. Gradually pour this slurry into the boiling sauce while stirring continuously. Keep stirring until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy. Your delicious sweet and sour sauce is now complete! Taste and adjust seasoning with soy sauce, sugar, or vinegar if needed to suit your palate.
Step 7
Finally, generously ladle the warm sweet and sour sauce over your perfectly fried dumplings. Serve immediately to enjoy the delightful contrast of crispy dumplings and the tangy, sweet sauce. Enjoy your homemade sweet and sour fried dumplings!
