Tangsuyuk-Style Dumplings: A Delicious Chinese-Inspired Dish
Enjoy these delightful dumplings made with a classic sweet and sour tangsuyuk sauce! They offer a perfect combination of crispy exterior and savory filling.
Main Ingredients- 10 frozen dumplings
- 1/4 carrot (approx. 25g)
- 1/4 zucchini (approx. 30g)
- 1/4 onion (approx. 30g)
- 1 can pineapple slices (or 2-3 larger chunks)
Sauce Ingredients- 3 Tbsp soy sauce
- 3 Tbsp vinegar
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 3/4 cup water (approx. 150ml)
- 3 Tbsp soy sauce
- 3 Tbsp vinegar
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 3/4 cup water (approx. 150ml)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Lightly coat a frying pan with cooking oil and heat over medium-low heat. Place the frozen dumplings in the pan and fry until golden brown and crispy. Turn them occasionally to ensure even cooking and a satisfying crunch. (If deep-frying is inconvenient, you can lightly oil the pan, cover it, and steam-fry over low heat, then finish with high heat to crisp up the exterior.)
Step 2
Prepare the vegetables for the sauce. Wash and peel the carrot, zucchini, and onion. Dice them into bite-sized pieces, about 1.5cm x 1.5cm, similar in size to the dumplings. For the carrots, which are harder, consider dicing them slightly smaller to ensure they cook evenly.
Step 3
Arrange the well-fried dumplings on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil. This step helps maintain their crispiness.
Step 4
Now, let’s make the signature sweet and sour tangsuyuk sauce. In a small saucepan or skillet, combine 3 Tbsp soy sauce, 3 Tbsp vinegar, 1 Tbsp sugar, and 3/4 cup (approx. 150ml) water. Stir well to mix all the ingredients.
Step 5
Bring the sauce to a boil over medium heat. Once boiling, add the diced carrot, zucchini, and onion. Cook for about 2-3 minutes until the vegetables are slightly tender but still retain a slight bite. Be careful not to overcook them into mushiness.
Step 6
Drain the canned pineapple and cut it into bite-sized pieces. If using slices, cut them into quarters. If using larger chunks, cut them into 2-3 pieces. Pineapple adds a wonderful sweet and tangy flavor to the sauce and enhances its overall profile.
Step 7
Add the prepared pineapple pieces to the simmering sauce with the vegetables and cook for another moment. The pineapple will further enrich the sauce’s taste. If the sauce seems too thin, you can thicken it by gradually adding a slurry made from 1 Tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 Tbsp water, stirring constantly until it reaches your desired consistency.
Step 8
Pour the hot, freshly made sauce generously over the crispy fried dumplings. Your delicious Tangsuyuk-style dumplings are now ready to be enjoyed! Serve immediately for the best experience of crispy dumplings with a luscious, flavorful sauce. Enjoy your meal!
