Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare your vegetables. Finely chop the green onion. For the onion and chili peppers (both red and green), remove the seeds and dice them finely. If you enjoy a spicier kick, feel free to use more green chilies or keep some seeds.
Step 2
Let’s make the delicious Gganpung sauce. In a small bowl, combine 2 Tbsp sugar, 2 Tbsp vinegar, 2 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp oyster sauce, 1 Tbsp ketchup, 1 Tbsp minced garlic, and 1/2 cup of water. Stir well until the sugar is completely dissolved. Your golden ratio sauce is ready!
Step 3
Pour a generous amount of cooking oil into a frying pan or wok. Heat the oil over medium heat, then add the frozen dumplings. Fry them until they are golden brown and crispy, turning them occasionally for even cooking. Dumplings with thinner wrappers tend to get crispier.
Step 4
Once the dumplings are perfectly fried, transfer them to a sieve set over a paper towel-lined plate. This step helps drain excess oil, ensuring your dumplings remain delightfully crispy.
Step 5
In the same pan used for frying the dumplings, leave just enough oil to coat the bottom. Add the chopped green onions and sauté over medium-low heat, stirring constantly to prevent burning, until they become fragrant and lightly golden. This infuses the oil with a wonderful green onion aroma.
Step 6
Once the green onions are nicely fragranced, add the diced red chili, green chili, and onion to the pan. Stir-fry quickly over high heat for about 1-2 minutes. You want the vegetables to be slightly tender but still retain a pleasant crunch.
Step 7
Now, pour the prepared Gganpung sauce into the pan. Keep the heat on high and bring the sauce to a boil.
Step 8
As the sauce begins to bubble vigorously, maintain the high heat and continue stirring. The sauce will gradually thicken and become glossy. Let it simmer for another 1-2 minutes until it reaches a thick, luscious consistency.
Step 9
Once the sauce has reached your desired thickness, add the crispy fried dumplings back into the pan.
Step 10
Finally, stir-fry everything quickly over high heat for about 30 seconds to 1 minute, ensuring the dumplings are evenly coated with the luscious sauce. This final toss brings all the flavors together.
Step 11
Turn off the heat and serve immediately. For an extra touch of color and flavor, sprinkle with parsley flakes. If you like an added crunch and nutty aroma, top with crushed peanuts. Enjoy your delicious homemade Gganpung Mandu!
