Crispy Fried Hard-Boiled Eggs (Gang Restaurant Style)
Transforming Hard-Boiled Eggs into a Crispy Delight with Chicken Fry Mix
I’ve been enjoying the variety show ‘Gang Restaurant’ lately. I heard the first day had a massive crowd, and after watching, it seems they resorted to a lottery system from the second day onwards! Even Lee Su-geun, who said he’d only do the dishes because he lacked skills, made ‘Quattro Fries’ and then used the leftover batter to fry some boiled eggs. Everyone raved about how delicious they were, so I decided to try making them today. Thus, today’s menu is Fried Hard-Boiled Eggs!
Ingredients- 7 hard-boiled eggs
- Store-bought chicken fry mix
- Cooking oil for frying
- Cold water
- A few ice cubes
- Ketchup (for sauce)
- Sugar (for sauce)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, peel the shells off the hard-boiled eggs cleanly and set them aside. If the shells are difficult to peel, try soaking them in water briefly before peeling.
Step 2
The store-bought chicken fry mix has a bit of color already. In a bowl, place the fry mix. To achieve extra crispiness, add a few ice cubes to cold water and gradually mix them in, creating a thin batter. The consistency should be thin enough to coat the eggs well, but not too watery.
Step 3
Before coating the eggs with the batter, lightly dust the peeled hard-boiled eggs with some of the dry fry mix. This step is crucial as it helps the batter adhere much better, resulting in a thicker and more even coating.
Step 4
Now, dip the dusted eggs into the prepared batter, ensuring they are fully coated. If you prefer an even thicker crust, you can repeat this battering process twice. For this recipe, I found a single coating to be perfect for a light crispness. Feel free to adjust based on your preference.
Step 5
Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a deep pan to about 170-180°C (340-355°F). You can test the oil temperature by dropping a bit of batter; it should sizzle and float immediately. Carefully place the battered eggs into the hot oil. Keep turning them gently to ensure they fry evenly and become golden brown and crispy, which should take about 3-4 minutes.
Step 6
Once golden and crispy, remove the fried eggs and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. You can mix ketchup and sugar to create a dipping sauce, just like they did on the show, or serve with your favorite store-bought sauce. Drizzle the sauce over the warm fried eggs and enjoy this delightful treat!
