Super Easy Recipe for ‘Shrimp Chips’ That Taste Like Shrimp Crackers, Made with Wonton Wrappers
Today, we’re making a homemade shrimp cracker-flavored snack using wonton wrappers! Introducing a super simple recipe for crispy ‘Shrimp Chips’.
Ingredients- 5 wonton wrappers
- 1 handful dried shrimp (approx. 10-15g)
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp sesame seeds
- 1/2 Tbsp dried parsley flakes
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, to enhance the flavor of the dried shrimp, lightly toast them in a dry pan over low heat without any oil. Stir occasionally to prevent burning. This process will further amplify the nutty aroma characteristic of shrimp.

Place the toasted dried shrimp and 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds into a blender or food processor. Grind them into a fine powder. The shrimp powder mixed with sesame seeds will add a rich, savory flavor and aroma.

Before using the wonton wrappers, take them out of the refrigerator and let them sit at room temperature for about 10-15 minutes to remove the chill. Once ready, cut each wrapper into 4 equal pieces. This size will result in a crispier texture and a convenient bite-sized snack after frying.

In a deep pan, heat a generous amount of cooking oil over low heat. Be careful not to let the oil get too hot. Gently place the cut wonton wrappers into the oil and fry briefly. Wonton wrappers are very thin, so they will turn golden brown quickly. Fry for about 10-20 seconds, watching closely to prevent burning. Over-frying can make them too hard.
Step 5
Transfer the fried wonton wrappers to a plate lined with paper towels or a wire rack to drain off any excess oil. While they cool slightly, proceed to the next step.

Prepare a large resealable plastic bag. Add the pre-ground dried shrimp and sesame seed mixture, 1 tablespoon of sugar, a pinch of salt, and 1/2 tablespoon of parsley flakes. Then, add all the fried wonton wrappers that have had their excess oil drained. Seal the bag tightly and shake vigorously to ensure the seasonings are evenly distributed over the wrappers. This step evenly coats the wrappers with the savory seasoning.
