Main Ingredients

  • 300g pork belly (use a thicker cut for a better steak texture)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of black pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the pork belly. Gently pat it dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture. Then, season both sides generously with salt and pepper. You can omit the pepper if you prefer, but a little sprinkle can help reduce any gamey odors and enhance the overall flavor.

Step 1

Step 2

Let’s make a delicious steak sauce! In a small bowl, combine 3 tablespoons of tonkatsu sauce, 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce, 2 tablespoons of cooking wine, 2 tablespoons of water, 1 tablespoon of corn syrup, and 0.5 tablespoon of minced garlic. Whisk or stir until all ingredients are well combined. Your flavorful sauce is now ready.

Step 2

Step 3

Heat a pan over medium heat and place the seasoned pork belly. Sear it until both sides are golden brown and crispy. Since pork belly releases a lot of fat, you likely won’t need to add any oil initially. Cook to your desired level of doneness, then carefully tilt the pan and use paper towels to soak up some of the rendered fat. This step helps the sauce adhere better and reduces greasiness.

Step 3

Step 4

With the excess fat removed from the pan, pour in the prepared steak sauce. Toss the pork belly in the sauce, ensuring it’s evenly coated on all sides. Simmer over medium-low heat for about 1-2 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and glaze the steak. If the sauce becomes too thick, you can add a little more water.

Step 4

Step 5

Slice the finished pork belly steak and arrange it on a plate. For a beautiful presentation, garnish with some fresh baby greens or a side salad. While this pork belly steak is fantastic on its own, we highly recommend enjoying it with a steaming bowl of rice for a truly satisfying meal! After all, pork belly is best served with rice. 😀
