Ingredients
  • 11 medium shrimp, cleaned
  • 0.7 Tbsp salt (fine or sea salt)
  • 0.7 Tbsp black pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, thoroughly clean the shrimp. Remove the devein (intestinal tract), and trim the tail shells and the very tip of the tail. If you prefer, you can remove the heads too, or leave them on to add extra flavor during cooking. Pre-cleaned shrimp are also available at most supermarkets for convenience.

Step 2

Once the shrimp are cleaned, sprinkle them evenly with salt. This step is crucial for seasoning the shrimp and enhancing their natural sweetness.

Step 3

Next, add the black pepper to the salted shrimp. Gently toss everything together with your hands, ensuring the seasoning coats each shrimp uniformly. Let the shrimp marinate for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Step 4

Lightly grease a non-stick frying pan over low heat. Dip a paper towel in a little cooking oil and use it to spread a thin, even layer of oil across the entire surface of the pan. This prevents sticking and ensures even cooking. Make sure there isn’t an excess pool of oil at the bottom of the pan.

Step 5

Turn off the heat completely. Carefully arrange the marinated shrimp in a single layer on the prepared pan. Placing them on a cold or low-heat pan prevents the outsides from burning before the insides are cooked.

Step 6

Now, turn the heat to high. Cook the shrimp until one side turns a vibrant pink and looks opaque, about 2-3 minutes. Flip the shrimp over. If you were using whole shrimp with shells and coarse salt, cooking on high heat helps infuse flavor into the meat. However, since these are cleaned and well-seasoned, we’re aiming for a quick sear. Once the second side also starts to look cooked, and the shrimp are plump, reduce the heat to medium. Continue to cook until the shrimp are fully cooked through and slightly firm to the touch – they should have a beautiful pink hue all around. Don’t overcook, or they’ll become tough.

Step 7

Transfer the perfectly grilled salted shrimp to a serving plate. Enjoy them immediately while they are warm and at their most delicious!
