Crispy & Moist Fried Rice Made with a Waffle Maker
Super Simple Fried Rice Recipe Using a Trendy Waffle Maker
One of the hottest culinary trends lately is using a waffle maker for cooking! Among various recipes, today I tried making fried rice with a waffle maker. It has a different charm compared to fried rice made in a frying pan: it’s crispy on the outside, moist on the inside, and deliciously savory, tasting just like crispy rice (nurungji)! If you have a waffle maker, definitely give this a try!
Main Ingredients- 1 bowl of cooked rice
- 1 egg
- 1/3 carrot
- 1/3 zucchini
- 1/2 can of Spam
- 1-2 strips of imitation crab meat
- 1/3 onion
Seasoning- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Finely chop all the ingredients for the fried rice (carrot, zucchini, Spam, imitation crab meat, onion). Chop them even smaller than you normally would for pan-fried rice. This ensures they cook evenly and the waffle shape turns out nicely.
Step 2
In a large bowl, combine the cooked rice, the finely chopped vegetables and Spam, imitation crab meat, and the egg. Use a bowl large enough to mix everything thoroughly.
Step 3
Season with salt and pepper to taste. Adjust the saltiness according to your preference. Since Spam is salty, it’s best not to add too much salt initially.
Step 4
Using a spatula or spoon, gently mix all the ingredients and seasonings together without mashing the rice. Ensure the egg mixture coats all the ingredients evenly. This step is crucial for binding everything together.
Step 5
Preheat your waffle maker by turning it on. Most waffle makers will indicate when they are preheated, usually with a light or a beep.
Step 6
Once the waffle maker is preheated, lightly grease both the top and bottom plates with cooking oil or butter. This prevents the fried rice from sticking and helps it achieve a crispier texture.
Step 7
Spoon a moderate amount of the mixed fried rice mixture onto the preheated waffle maker plates. Close the lid and press down firmly. Cook for about 3-5 minutes, or until the indicator light turns off and the rice is golden brown and crisp. Cooking time may vary depending on your waffle maker model.
Step 8
Open the waffle maker to reveal your beautifully cooked fried rice, shaped like a waffle! The appetizing golden color is sure to impress.
Step 9
Top with ketchup as desired and enjoy this unique fried rice. It offers a delightful contrast to pan-fried rice, with a crispy exterior, a moist interior, and a savory flavor. The texture is reminiscent of crispy rice or nurungji, providing a truly special eating experience.
