Vegetables & Other Ingredients

  • 1/3 Carrot (julienned)
  • 1/3 Onion (julienned)
  • Shiitake or King Oyster Mushrooms, desired amount (sliced)
  • 1/3 Apple (peeled, cored, and julienned)
  • Frozen fried dumplings, desired amount
  • Cheddar cheese, desired amount (cut into small pieces)
  • 1 Tbsp Cooking oil

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the vegetables for the Tangsuyuk. Peel and core the carrot, onion, mushrooms, and apple. Then, julienne them into strips about 0.5 cm thick, making them bite-sized for everyone, including children. Adding the apple towards the end will keep its texture and prevent it from browning. This recipe makes about 2 servings, but you can adjust the ingredient quantities according to your needs.

Step 1

Step 2

Now, let’s make the delicious Tangsuyuk sauce. In a pot, combine 350 ml of water and 4 Tbsp of cornstarch. Whisk thoroughly with a whisk or spoon until there are no lumps. Once smooth, add 4 Tbsp soy sauce, 4 Tbsp oyster sauce, 3 Tbsp vinegar, and 3 Tbsp sugar. Place the pot over medium heat and stir continuously as it begins to boil. Constant stirring is crucial to prevent the sauce from burning.

Step 2

Step 3

As the sauce starts to boil and thicken, add all the prepared vegetables (except the apple) and continue to cook for about 5 minutes. Let the vegetables soften slightly and meld with the sauce. Finally, add the julienned apple and mix gently. Your sweet and sour Tangsuyuk sauce is complete! Isn’t that incredibly simple?

Step 3

Step 4

Next, prepare the fried dumplings. Take the desired amount of frozen fried dumplings and place them on a plate. Since we’ll be using an air fryer instead of deep-frying, it’s very convenient.

Step 4

Step 5

Place the fried dumplings into a resealable bag or a wide bowl. Drizzle 1 Tbsp of cooking oil evenly over them. Shake the bag well or toss the dumplings in the bowl to ensure they are thinly coated with oil. This oil coating is the secret to making the dumplings extra crispy!

Step 5

Step 6

Arrange the oil-coated dumplings in the air fryer basket. Sprinkle the cut cheddar cheese evenly over the dumplings. Air fry at 180°C (350°F) for about 15 minutes. The cheese will melt and adhere deliciously to the dumplings. Adjust the cooking time until the dumplings are golden brown and crispy.

Step 6

Step 7

If you like, you can also dice frozen tofu into cubes and air fry it along with the dumplings. Feel free to add tofu if you enjoy it! (This step is optional.)

Step 7

Step 8

Arrange the perfectly cooked cheese-covered dumplings on a plate. Generously ladle the warm sweet and sour sauce over them. The combination of the crispy dumpling texture, the rich cheese, and the tangy-sweet sauce is absolutely fantastic! You’ll experience the magic of this dish disappearing in no time. Enjoy your delicious meal!
