[Super Simple ‘Cheat’ Recipe] Agédashi Tofu Style Fried Soft Tofu with Rice Paper
An incredibly easy ‘cheat’ version of agédashi tofu that you can make at home and achieve a satisfying crispiness! The fantastic harmony of soft tofu and crispy rice paper makes it perfect as a snack for kids or as a delightful accompaniment to drinks.
Ingredients
- 1 block soft tofu
- 6 sheets rice paper
- Tamago soy sauce (or regular soy sauce) to taste
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Before taking out the soft tofu, make a small incision on the bottom part of the packaging. This will allow you to easily remove the tofu without it breaking apart, keeping its shape intact!
Step 2
Carefully remove the soft tofu and cut it into 6 equal pieces. Don’t worry if a piece breaks a little; the crispy coating will hide any imperfections.
Step 3
Lightly dip a sheet of rice paper in warm water until pliable. Lay it flat, then place a piece of soft tofu on top. Pull the rice paper tightly around the tofu to form a neat package. **Crucial Tip!** Thoroughly pat the surface of the soft tofu dry with paper towels. Excess moisture can lead to soggy rice paper or cause the tofu to separate from the wrapper. Make sure to remove the moisture to avoid a sad outcome!
Step 4
Gently place the rice paper-wrapped tofu pieces into the air fryer basket. Try to leave some space between them so they can crisp up evenly.
Step 5
Set the air fryer to 160°C (320°F) and cook for about 20 minutes, or until the outside is golden brown and crispy. (If you didn’t manage to remove enough moisture from the tofu, the rice paper might separate slightly. In such cases, you can increase the cooking time or slightly raise the temperature to achieve extra crispiness.)
Step 6
Carefully remove the fried tofu from the air fryer and arrange it beautifully on a plate. For an extra touch, sprinkle some furikake or sesame seeds on top, if desired.
