Crispy Rice Paper Potato Chips
Stick Your Potatoes to Paper for Amazing Chips!
Kids absolutely adore potato chips! While store-bought ones are convenient, making them at home when you have potatoes on hand brings immense satisfaction as you watch your children’s delighted faces. Although it might be a little effort, the joy you get from their happiness is truly rewarding! This recipe offers a unique and healthy twist on a favorite snack.
Ingredients- 1-2 potatoes (medium size)
- 3-4 sheets of rice paper
- 3-4 pinches of salt (adjust to taste)
- Plenty of cooking oil (for deep-frying)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the potatoes thoroughly. You can peel them or leave the skin on, as you prefer. Using a mandoline slicer or a grater, slice the potatoes into very thin rounds. The thinner the slices, the crispier the chips will be.
Step 2
Place the thinly sliced potatoes in a bowl and sprinkle with 3-4 pinches of salt. Let them sit for about 5 to 10 minutes to draw out moisture and allow the salt to penetrate.
Step 3
After salting, use paper towels or a clean kitchen cloth to thoroughly pat the potato slices dry. Excess moisture can cause oil splattering during frying and will prevent the chips from becoming perfectly crisp.
Step 4
Briefly dip one sheet of rice paper in warm water until it’s pliable but not overly saturated. Carefully lay the dried potato slices onto the softened rice paper, overlapping them slightly. Ensure the potato slices cover the entire surface of the rice paper without any gaps for the best texture.
Step 5
Pour enough cooking oil into a frying pan to generously cover the chips and preheat it to 175-180°C (350-355°F). A wooden chopstick inserted into the oil should bubble gently. Carefully place the potato-covered rice paper into the hot oil. Fry for a few minutes on each side, until the potatoes turn golden brown and become crispy. They should look translucent and the edges should be nicely browned.
Step 6
Once fried to a beautiful golden hue, remove the rice paper potato chips from the oil and place them on a wire rack or a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil and cool slightly. This step ensures maximum crispiness. Enjoy these delightful homemade chips with your family!
