Introducing a recipe for a mild and crunchy soybean sprout and crab stick salad, perfect as a side dish for children’s meals. Made with simple ingredients, this is a delicious banchan that the whole family can enjoy.
Main Ingredients- 1 bag soybean sprouts (approx. 300g)
- 2 sticks imitation crab meat
Seasoning- 0.5 Tbsp soup soy sauce (Guk-ganjang)
- 2 Tbsp chopped green onion
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- A pinch of toasted sesame seeds
- A pinch of salt (for seasoning adjustment)
- 0.5 Tbsp soup soy sauce (Guk-ganjang)
- 2 Tbsp chopped green onion
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- A pinch of toasted sesame seeds
- A pinch of salt (for seasoning adjustment)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, rinse the soybean sprouts thoroughly under running water a couple of times. Make sure to wash them well to remove any dirt or impurities.
Step 2
In a pot, add 2 cups of water and 0.3 Tbsp (about 1/3 tsp) of salt. Once the water starts boiling, add the rinsed soybean sprouts. Cover the pot and blanch them over medium heat for about 8 minutes. It’s important to cook them until they are still crisp and not too mushy. Boiling them while covered helps retain steam, which can contribute to a crunchier texture.
Step 3
Drain the blanched soybean sprouts well using a colander. While they are still warm, they will absorb the seasonings better, but if they are too hot, the texture might become soft. Let them cool slightly before mixing if preferred. Place the drained sprouts in a bowl. Tear or cut the imitation crab sticks into bite-sized pieces (about 2-3 cm long) and add them to the bowl. Next, add the seasoning ingredients: 0.5 Tbsp soup soy sauce, 2 Tbsp chopped green onion, and 1 Tbsp minced garlic. Gently mix everything together with your hands. Be careful not to mix too vigorously, as this can mash the sprouts. Taste and add a pinch of salt if needed to adjust the flavor. Finally, add 1 Tbsp of sesame oil and a pinch of toasted sesame seeds, and mix lightly to finish. This completes your delicious soybean sprout and crab stick salad. Serve it nicely on a plate.
