Main Ingredients
  • 150g garlic scapes
  • 1/2 onion

Seasoning
  • 1 Tbsp perilla oil
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp oligosaccharide (or corn syrup)
  • A pinch of toasted sesame seeds
  • A pinch of salt

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, wash the garlic scapes thoroughly under running water. Trim off any tough ends if necessary, and then cut them into bite-sized pieces, about 3cm long. Peel the onion, wash it, and then slice it thinly into strips, similar in length to the garlic scapes.

Step 2

Now, heat a frying pan over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of fragrant perilla oil. Once the oil is shimmering, add the prepared garlic scapes and begin to stir-fry them. Just a brief stir-fry will make their color even more vibrant and appealing. You’ll notice a pleasant aroma as they start to cook. Continue for about 1-2 minutes.

Step 3

Once the garlic scapes are lightly sautéed, add the sliced onion to the pan. Continue to stir-fry both ingredients together. Cook until the onion becomes translucent and releases its sweet fragrance. Stir occasionally to ensure everything is evenly cooked and mingled.

Step 4

Time to season! Add 1 tablespoon of soy sauce and a pinch of salt to taste. Stir well to distribute the seasoning. For a touch of sweetness, add 1 teaspoon of oligosaccharide (or corn syrup). Stir everything together again, ensuring the vegetables are nicely coated with the sauce. Stir-fry for another minute or so. Just before turning off the heat, sprinkle generously with toasted sesame seeds for an extra nutty aroma and flavor. Your delicious garlic scape stir-fry is now ready!
