Crispy Sweet & Savory Carrot Salad
Making a Delicious Sweet and Salty Carrot Salad
This carrot salad was created on a whim and surprisingly turned out to be delicious! It’s a simple recipe that yields unexpectedly delightful results.
Ingredients- 1 Carrot (medium-sized)
- 1 tsp Black Pepper (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 Tbsp Sugar (or corn syrup)
- 2 Tbsp Cooking Oil (or olive oil)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the medium-sized carrot thoroughly. You can peel it thinly with a peeler or, if it’s clean, leave the peel on. Then, julienne the carrot into bite-sized strips. Aim for a thickness of about 0.3-0.5 cm; if they are too thin, they might lose their satisfying crunch. Slicing them to this thickness will help maintain a delightful crisp texture.
Step 2
Sprinkle about 1 teaspoon of black pepper over the julienned carrots. Pepper enhances the natural sweetness of the carrots and balances any potential richness. Feel free to adjust the amount of pepper according to your preference; I like just a hint for a subtle aroma. Toss the carrots and pepper together until evenly coated.
Step 3
Next, add 1/2 tablespoon of sugar. If you prefer a sweeter taste, you can add a little more, but the key is to balance it with the carrot’s natural sweetness. You can substitute corn syrup for sugar if you like, and again, adjust the quantity to your liking. Mix well to ensure the sugar is evenly distributed and begins to meld with the carrots.
Step 4
Finally, drizzle in 2 tablespoons of cooking oil. You can use any oil you prefer, such as olive oil or sesame oil, but I recommend a neutral cooking oil or light olive oil for a clean flavor. The oil will coat the carrots, giving them a glossy finish and a smoother texture. Give everything one last good toss to ensure all ingredients are well combined. Your delicious sweet and savory carrot salad is now ready to enjoy!
