Enjoy a delicious fried dish with crispy exteriors and tender interiors using frozen flounder cutlets purchased from E-mart. By getting the batter ratio just right, you can make fish cutlets at home that rival those from a restaurant. Serve with a dollop of store-bought tartar sauce and a fresh cabbage salad for a satisfying meal. You can also fry frozen pollock slices in the same way for an even more abundant spread.
Main Ingredients- E-mart Flounder Cutlets 2 pieces
- Pollock Slices 6 pieces
- Frying Flour 1 cup
- Salt 1 tsp
- Pepper 1 tsp
- Herbs (dried) 1 tsp
- Water 1/2 cup (for batter)
- Tartar Sauce 4 Tbsp
- Shredded Cabbage 2 cups
- Ketchup 2 Tbsp
- Mayonnaise 2 Tbsp
- Pickled Radish (optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, thaw the frozen flounder cutlets either at room temperature or in the refrigerator until completely defrosted. This ensures even cooking and a perfectly crispy texture when fried.
Step 2
Preheat frying oil to 160°C (320°F). Carefully place the thawed flounder cutlets into the hot oil and fry. Since the flounder cutlets can be quite large, handle them gently when removing from the oil to prevent them from breaking. Once golden brown, remove and let excess oil drain.
Step 3
Finely shred fresh cabbage. Just before serving, drizzle with ketchup and mayonnaise to your liking for a simple yet delicious cabbage salad. Arrange the fried flounder cutlets and fish cutlets on a plate. If you don’t have pickles, pickled radish (rakkyo) makes a great substitute.
Step 4
Prepare plenty of store-bought tartar sauce. For an extra touch of freshness, you can add a squeeze of lemon juice. Alternatively, finely chop pickles (I used ones from Costco) and mix them into the tartar sauce for added texture and a tangy flavor. These additions create a more complex and enjoyable taste experience.
