Easy & Delicious Napa Cabbage Pancake Recipe (Baechu-jeon) – Perfect for Any Occasion!
I’m sharing a recipe for Napa Cabbage Pancakes (Baechu-jeon) that are both simple to make and incredibly tasty. These pancakes are a wonderful dish, perfect for holidays or any time you crave something savory. Enjoy the delightful combination of crispy edges and tender cabbage right at home!
Main Ingredients- 10 large leaves of Napa cabbage
- 2.5 cups of pancake mix (buchim garu)
- 0.8 cup of water
- Cooking oil, as needed
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Select 10 large outer leaves from the Napa cabbage. To ensure tenderness, make 2-3 shallow cuts along the thicker, white stem part of each leaf. This will help them cook more evenly and become softer.
Step 2
In a large bowl, combine the 2.5 cups of pancake mix. Gradually add 0.8 cup of water while whisking to prevent lumps. Aim for a batter consistency that is neither too thick nor too thin – it should flow smoothly but not be watery.
Step 3
Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add a generous amount of cooking oil. Dip each prepared cabbage leaf into the batter, ensuring it’s well-coated, and place it in the hot pan. Cook until golden brown on one side.
Step 4
Flip the pancake and cook the other side until it’s also golden brown and crispy. Once both sides are perfectly cooked, your delicious Napa Cabbage Pancake is ready! It’s incredibly simple yet boasts a fantastic flavor.
Step 5
The sight of these golden-brown, crispy pancakes is truly appetizing! Dipping them in a simple soy sauce-based dipping sauce (ganjang) elevates the flavor even further. They are a perfect savory snack or side dish.
Step 6
Beyond Napa Cabbage Pancakes, you can explore making various other delicious Korean pancakes like Skewer Pancakes (Kkochi-jeon), Sweet Potato Pancakes (Goguma-jeon), Lotus Root Pancakes (Yeongeun-jeon), Zucchini Pancakes (Hobak-jeon), and Pollack Pancakes (Dongtae-jeon) for a delightful and varied meal.
