Fish & Frying Ingredients
  • 2 prepared flounder fillets
  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 10g fresh cilantro
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil

Refreshing Sauce Ingredients
  • 1/6 carrot (small)
  • 1 red chili pepper
  • 2 Tbsp fish sauce
  • 2 Tbsp vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Prepare the vegetables for the sauce. Finely mince the carrot and red chili pepper. Wash the fresh cilantro, pat it dry, and chop it into 2-3 cm lengths. Finely chopping the vegetables enhances the sauce’s flavor and texture.

Step 2

Pat the prepared flounder fillets completely dry with paper towels. Season both sides of the fish with a pinch of salt and pepper. Then, coat the flounder evenly with cornstarch. This coating helps retain moisture and ensures a crispier finish when cooked.

Step 3

Lightly drizzle olive oil into the air fryer basket, then place the cornstarch-coated flounder inside. Air fry at 170°C (340°F) for 10 minutes. Carefully flip the flounder and air fry for another 10 minutes. Cooking time may vary depending on the size of the fish and your air fryer model. Check for a golden-brown and crispy texture.

Step 4

While the flounder is cooking, prepare the refreshing Southeast Asian sauce. In a bowl, combine the minced carrot, red chili pepper, and chopped cilantro. Add the fish sauce, vinegar, sugar, and minced garlic. Stir well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined and the sauce is smooth.

Step 5

Arrange the beautifully cooked flounder on a serving plate. Generously spoon the prepared Southeast Asian sauce over the fish. Garnish with additional chopped cilantro if desired. Your impressive dish, featuring crispy yet tender flounder with a delightful sweet and sour sauce, is now ready to be enjoyed!
