  • 1 egg
  • 2 slices processed cheese
  • 5 Vienna sausages
  • 2 pinches salt
  • A pinch of black pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Let’s start making the Swiss potato pancake ‘Rösti’! The ingredients are really simple, aren’t they? You can easily make it with ingredients you already have at home. Instead of Vienna sausages, using bacon or ham will also add a great flavor.

Step 2

Peel the potato and shred it as thinly and finely as possible. Shredding it thinly helps the pieces stick together well when cooking and speeds up the cooking process. Sprinkle the shredded potato with two pinches of salt and a pinch of black pepper for seasoning. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld before cooking.

Step 3

Melt a generous amount of butter in a pan over medium-low heat. Using plenty of butter will enhance the flavor, so we recommend using a good amount.

Step 4

Spread the seasoned shredded potato evenly in the pan, forming a thin layer using chopsticks or a similar tool. It’s important to spread the potato thinly, as a thick layer will make it difficult to cook through. Cook over low heat for about 5-7 minutes until the bottom is golden brown and crispy.

Step 5

Check if the bottom is nicely browned and crispy, then carefully flip the pancake. When the potato is cooked well, it will be much easier to flip. Flip it over and cook the other side for about 5 more minutes until golden brown.

Step 6

Once one side is golden brown, place 2 slices of processed cheese on top of the cooked potato pancake. Then, carefully fold the potato pancake in half and cook for another minute or so until the cheese is melted. It will be incredibly delicious with the cheese stretching!

Step 7

Transfer the finished Rösti to a plate, cutting it into serving-sized pieces if desired. Lightly fry the egg and Vienna sausages in a pan with a little oil to serve alongside the Rösti. You can also add ketchup or a dessert sauce to your liking.
